I think all that can be done is remove the restrictor. I'm not sure if they have reeds.

with ya on that, they fuel injected so unless you got a secret then no reeds. I have wondered if exhaust would do anything.

Maybe I'm crazy or something, but no way would I take a 40 tohatsu over a 40 merc. 42 cubic inches won't do what 59 cubic inches will except get better fuel economy.

That's what I'm talking about, thanks. My 25 runs 26 on the gps. Just trying to figure out what the 40 should do.

Paul. What does your Hull weigh? Have a 40 Nissan on a 13"6' whaler and it'll do upper 30's. Played with the prop and got 43 once, but it was insane!! Way to fast!! Boat would go airbourne.......whaler Hull is a little over 300lb

Not sure, I do know it's way more than I want to pick up. I really have no clue. It's an Alweld 16x48 with front deck and rear bench.

Not sure you need reeds on the new models. Its all electronic....piston closes the exhaust port, and injectors do the rest??? Just a guess

Set-up makes a difference.

I don't know for sure how it works, but I think they have an air pump that pressurizes the fuel, but don't know how it avoids using reeds.

I am no mechanic but I thought all 2 stroke engines, carbureted or fuel injected, had reeds.

Reeds are on carbureted engines but not fuel injected unless someone knows somthing I dont. From best I understand in a nut shell the jets and reeds in a carburetor do the same thing that injectors due on a fuel injected engine, both have their pros and cons. The deal with removing the restrictor on the TLDI is like unrestricting air flow on any engine and from stuff I have read on this new engine it will adjust its self for more air flow and add more fuel due to computer on engine so the next thing to figure out is if you can modify the exhaust in any way to get more out flow.

Ok I did alittle more looking and I have learned somthin new on this, I was looking at 4-stroke setup not 2 stroke. The reed is used to replace the valves found in a 4 stroke, but I think that the deal on the new engine as far as changing reeds is gona be a differnce of old jets vs new has injectors. I am sure someone will find a way to trick cpu and then find a way to open air intake, run bigger injectors and open exhaust but its alittle more involved then the older motor where you just change a few parts and make adjustments with screw driver.
