first off is it legal to duck hunt using a trolling motor? and also does anyone do really well hunting bayous? ive only done it a few times with minimal results is there any tricks i live around bayou des cannes.

You can hunt with a trolling motor as long as it's not running when you shoot....kinda grey area....but purty sure thats the case......I mostly hunt marshes so no real advise for the 2nd part of your question....sorry......try gettn with huntn fool he may be able to help!!!

Boat has to be at a complete stop with motor out of water if I remember right, which I may not be right but do you really wanna find out the hard way? Second, we have hunted Bayou Manchac and we have done ok, but not good.

A boat with a motor (including trolling motor) can not be moving when you shoot.

I know some people that paddle pirogues around a few areas and shoot ducks and squirrels while paddling around

We do well for wood ducks in little bayous with oak trees. You have to put the time in to scout and find out where they are at...I have a 10ft jo boat with a trolling motor i use to get around in those skinny bayous...Not sure about the whole drift thing... I set up a blind against the bank and throw out a half dozen decoys...when the sun starts coming up and you hear them whistling i start calling to them...I try to move my blind every 3 days so I don't chase them out of an area...

Can't be running a trolling motor. If you do it right you don't need a motor anyway. A day like tomorrow will be a good example. Launch upstream, and take the current created by the runoff. Logs and other crap float downstream, sometimes even a canoe. All you need the paddle for is to steer. Keep your hand in the water with the paddle, creating a rudder. That is it.

Trolling motor would be nice when its time to make it back upstream!

What we do is have a designated area downstream where we park another vehicle. Put the canoe on it and go drive to pick up the other vehicle you launched upstream with. The area we hunt is perfect, about a 3 mile float downstream to the pick up point.

I live right next to decannes south of you..we slam woodies and teal with an occational greenhead. Usually, you will only need a few wood duck decoys and a few teal decoys in two seperate small clusters, this has worked the best for us.
