Lure painting/making thread

It looks flat, just b/c of the way i took the picture, but here it is with the color not bad for a first attempt, i dont think...


The pic. actually really sucks. but it shows the color

I just did.

Fool, Bombers are so finely balanced that almost any modification will change the action and usually trash the bait. For instance, I took some eyes off a She Dog and glued them on a 15 Series Bomber. The bait would dive nose-down when it hit the water. Since I used epoxy to put the eyes on...I trashed the bait. Never sand with anything but water and always sand in-between coats to make sure the paint adheres. Sand before clear coating and sand in-between clear coats. It takes alot of tedious time when you do it right but, when you catch a fish, you get a special satisfaction out of saying..."Ha ha...I fooled your azz".

Heres a better pic...


So let me get this right, before i put my clear coat on it, i need to sand it with normal sand paper. Wouldn't that take the paint off???

to do eyes get a 1/4 " dowel and a 1/2 " dowel . Use the flat end of the dowel dipped in paint to put the eye on the bait. let it dry then you use the smaller dowel to put the center dot in the eye. Or use the smaller dowel and a toothpick.

Do you mean to do that like when the bait doesn't have eyes already built on it? or to paint the eye use the dowel?

Well salty, im swinging by after school tomorrow to get the wet and dry sand paper. I'm about to pm you with a question...

Sand paint off with wet dry (400) clear coat, paint, sand,paint,sand,clear coat, sand

But don't sand after your final coat of clear....Unless Salty say too...

I sand paint off with the 400, then after each clear coat, and paint coat sand with 600?

yes when lure doesn't have eyes use dowels. To paint the lures that have eyes use a tooth pick point to circle the eye then fine artist brush to fill it in . then you can use small dowel to do the center dot.

Hey Salty, did ya get an airbrush? If so, did ya get the Iwata?

I worked as a painter in the collision industry so, I may be able to help if ya'll get hung up. I've been out for a good number of years but think I still remember enough to be helpful.

Fool.....how are you holding your belt sander while sanding on a lure?

I have a vice big enough to clamp mine....up side down. This way I have a flat sanding area or can use the front end where it is rounded.

For the eyes on the bone color lure......maybe black circle with white or red center.
