repair or replace the trailer?

My 2007 tandem trailer needs new axles, stainless brakes, tires and wiring. Looks like it it'll cost $1500-2000 to repair. New McClain trailer set up much better than what I have is about $4000. Between me and my boys, we use it quite 30-40 weekends a year. What do you think?

I'd replace it. A breakdown on the old trailer could cost you way more. I will need to replace the axels on my trailer in a few years and that is what I will do. You can sell the trailer you have now to offset some of the expense. Someone will want it.

just based on usage I say get a new one, money well spent as an investment in not having problems on the road. plus selling your old trailer you might get $900-$1000 for it even needing all that work.

if you said you only used it 12-15 times a year then maybe you could think about repairing

That's pretty much been my thinking. Just wanted to get some reassurance. I went to McClain Trailers in Houston yesterday and after seeing what they have as opposed to the Magic Tilt I have now is light years of difference. Thanks for the input fellas.

I have a McClain on my Frontier and it is a piece of ****. Fenders are broke and I already replaced them once, the guides have broke off, etc.

priced new / used trailers ready to go 4000 to 5000 so I have a tandem steel for my Blazer tubing trailer not worth anything, rust from inside out. so I found a friend that had a damaged alum. trailer single axle. I bought it for 400 turned around an put 700 in it ( 1 new axle/spring/hangers/tandem slider put it all together my self & I love it so I would have to do it again alum. is the way to go.

Look into sport trail trailers, they are very well built. I know Lake Area Marine in Lake Charles sells them.

mine may be for sale. has my 22 pure bay on it, low miles since I live 10 miles from the lake and my boat was gone for an unspeakable amount of time

I second this opinion about McClain trailers. I feel the same way about the one that I have my boat on.

I agree that your best bet is to purchase a new trailer but recommend shopping around before you buy a McClain.

Yap Sportrail they can custom build to your boat at a reasonable price.Had mc claim and it was not very good cheaply made .Bunks kept having to be adjusted and fenders coming apart.
