Forget what organization (Audubon?) but one of their goals is to keep common birds common. Passenger pigeons once numbered in the billions (with a b) and went extinct pretty quick but that was loss of habitat. Believe it or not in the 1950s the brown pelican was extirpated from Louisiana and almost went extinct. Hard to believe as common as they are now. Alligators have a similar success story |

Passenger pigeon went extinct due to over hunting. At least that's what they taught in my wildlife class, not due to habitat loss. Punt guns did some damage. Carolina parakeet went extinct due to harvest and habitat loss.

it may be hard for some to believe, but there are those of us who also notice other aspects of the natural world while we are fishing. My binocs are never more than arms reach away on my boat or in my blind.
Yes there are birds out here and some are quite cool to just watch. |

Mr T you keep looking out for all those "birds". I'll keep my eye out for the boobies.

Being aware of your surroundings is important. I had to same opinion until I fished with a biologist and he pointed out the many things that make our area special. From oyster catchers to terrapins to Boobies. It makes the experience a wonderful learning experience.
