To add to what Kibb states below.
DON'T:
Do not keep them on concrete as this will kill the cells.
Do not let the batteries get dirty, dirt/dust will drain a battery over night.

DO'S
Use a battery maintainer like the prosport 20
Use an anti corrosion spray or gel to keep the posts clean and in good shape

Good luck

Default Batteries

The battery on concrete deal doesn't apply anymore. With modern plastics batteries are made of this no longer exists. This applies to batteries made decades ago when the case was permeable by the acids and electrolysis would occur across the cells.

Dirt and dust will not drain the battery. It is the acid on top that condensates on top while charging that shorts out across the poles. Make sure to clean the top so this shorting between poles does not occur.

My Duralast Marine 27 series trolling motor batteries (24v system) lasted about 5 years. Keeping them at full charge and using the maintainer is about the best you can do for batteries.

My Duralast marine cranking battery is still going 5+ years.

Also, there is a new technology that is referred to as conditioning or desulfation. It uses high frequency pulse to disolve the sulfates off the lead plats. There's industry data showing actual longevity increases, units are reasonably priced as well.. Battery Minder and Noco Genius get a lot of good reviews.

Anyone know if the optima last as long as the interstates?
