Where are you hunting at to come across it. During the search for caskets after Rita here in SWLA I came across MANY big cottonmouths all around Big Lake. DId you hear it first?

No it never rattled. I was coming put of one of my bow stand locations climbing up a ridge. Buddy was on back of bike holding a barrel. I had to go around a big brush pile and was going real slow. Buddy is very scared of snakes. It was coiled up under a branch about a 3 feet from his hand cause he was holding barrel off side of bike. He started screaming, "Go, Go!" I didnt even have to look to know what it was. Went to my truck and got my judge and got back before he slithered off.

When I was a kid, me and a buddy killed 5 huge cottonmouths. All the men at the campground were drunk and told us to skin them and they would bbq them for us. Really was pretty good. Never tried rattlesnake before.

About twenty one years ago I shot and killed a 5'11" timber rattler. This was at out deer lease outside of Arcadia. The snake was stretched out crossing a field road. I walked up on the rattler end with 22 pistol in hand, planted my foot just behind the rattler, leaned over and shot it in the head. That snake re-flexed upwards and back towards me and I nearly shat in my pants. The shot was dead center of the head. The timbers are a beautiful skinned snake.

When I went to load this one In the back of my truck I think it was still half alive or just nerves. Picked it up and it jumped/half struck at me. Like to crap my pants. My buddy took off running and screaming down the driveway of my camp. Beat the crap out of it's head with a piece of rebar.
