That marsh can soak up a lot of rain for sure. but if it's going to drive the salinity too low, they'll probably have to open them.... we'll see.

It's falling but still high. Though not positive, I think the target level is 5ppt

It may be close after this morning. Another good one like that and we may be good. With that said, does anyone know what is considered outside the refuge in order to get 100lbs of shrimp? I believe it's not just beyond the signs.

They do sometimes open the weirs to "alleviate flooding" even if the salinity values are still above target. That may well happen after all of this rain.

If you are asking about where is the boundary at Grand Bayou......

Years ago there was a small sign showing the boundary. The sign was on the small bit of land that came up next to the entrance of Grand Bayou. [Note: this was a good flounder spot.]

If you look at a map, it shows the Refuge property comes up to the shore of Big Lake. But near Grand Bayou, on the north side, some of the old shoreline has wash away. The small open area just outside the rocks is all part of the Refuge.

So to answer your question, to get the 100 lb limit of shrimp.....you must be out in the lake, beyond the [old natural] shore line.

Last year we had high salinity and they opened it for a week to relieve flooding
