Default Boat Progress

I have been working on this boat for several months. Saturday we flipped it over and now I start working on the inside. It is a flats style boat that is 17' long and 89" wide.

looks very nice and you got a great little helper there

just curious, is that an anti-fouling paint or did you make the bottom different color gel coat? since most boats go one color only

The black hull color is created by using graphite mixed into the epoxy. The graphite is supposed to reduce scratches if you run into sand, rocks, oysters, etc. by letting them "slip" instead of digging in and scratching. Kayakers and canoes have been using it for several years. There are some commercial products that are even slicker and are often used by air boats.

The white sides are a high build primer. The hull sides will eventually be painted.

The helper is my grandson who was visiting. He was a real help using vinegar to clean off the epoxy that got on me.

Where did you buy the plans from? I bought the Texas sled plans from Bateau.com. Thinking about getting the XF 20 plans. Will build one of these sometime in the future..

The plans were from Bateau. The Phantom 16 stretched to 17'.

I visited with a guy in Lafayette that has a Phantom 18 with a 90 HP Yamaha 2 stroke. He really likes it.

Did this guy give you any idea of performance numbers with that 90hp? What do you plan on putting on it?

He said with a light load of a couple of guys and an ice chest 40-41 mph. I am thinking of a 90HP Tohatsu. With the new gear ratio they came out with a couple of years ago are they supposed to have a lot of torque. I keep asking guys that have Tohatsu's what they think of them and have never heard a bad word.

Here is a guy building a panga: http://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58447

His plans are from the same place Calcutta37 and I got ours.
