FlagUS Seen any woodcock?

Just wondering if any of the deer or rabbit hunters in the central (Bayou Benoit) area of the Basin have been seeing any woodcock yet during their treks through the woods? I am wanting to take a couple of kids hunting for them when the season opens.

Oh man, I like the becasse!!

Actually saw some in this area about two weeks ago, and a dear friend and my woodcock hunting buddy said one landed about four feet from him the other day in a field in Zachary.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Have any of you guys hunted them using a German Shorthair dog as a pointer and retriever. I am thinking about getting one and just wondered if it helped or hurt the hunt.

I hunt with a boykin........but she is 12 now and I am looking at Whatelhunds.

The GSP I have seen are bold hunters and VERY athletic.
A little rangy for me.

What is a Whatelhund? I typed it in the search engine but did not come up with anything.

The Whactelhund looks like a real good dog. I am wanting a dog that can multi-task between field bird pointing and hunting and also be a good duck retriever.

I saw quite a few in Beauregard Parish this past weekend. Haven't seen any all year and they just showed up. Hopefully you have some in your area as well

Thanks for the reports, with them in all those areas there should be some in the Basin. We might give it a shot if the water does not get to high in my area.
