Default 12'-15' jon boat users

well im gonna be purchasing a boat in a month or so and im lookin at gettin a 12'-15' jon boat mainly for the bayous bass and bream but i will do saltwater as well im just worried about gettin swamped by people in bigger boats im used to a 15' skiff but due to money and storing i have to have something i can carry and put in my backyard so it has to be a jon boat, its mainly gonna be just me so the 12' is cheaper and easier to maeuver but the 14-15' would be more stable just wondering your thoughts on the situation

if you get an all welded boat you will have your hands full as it will be heavy, not sure if you are lookin at somthin with a trailer but i would at least have a dolly set up to move it. the shorter you go the wider you will need if u dont want to get swamped but you can expect around 300lb just in a boat to have to move. there is a few good used boats around, seen a 14x42 on here with a merc and trailer that looked pretty good and is said to have never been used -

1448 hull with a 25hp outboard is ideal, I worry about getting swamped too, but as long as you use caution and don't run into huge wakes you should be fine, I slow down when I have to, but usually I'm fine when its just bass boats.

I have a friend with one for sale. I think it's 15'. He wants $1400 for the whole rig, boat motor and trailer. Got a 25 yamaha with less than 100 hours on it. It's in gonzales.

id save more money, those boats are pond boats and they only handle 9.9 motors, plus for a few hundred more you can get a used boat motor and trailer together for about $1500 instead of 650 plus tax for a boat, 700 plus tax for a trailer plus a heck of a lot more money for a motor. +tax!

I have a 1436 riveted its great for pond stuff and I fish the marsh. If your gonna have to haul it by hand you definitely want riveted. If I were to get another one similar I'd at least go 48 wide there's so much more room its not even funny.

Don't quote me on this.....but I think the law is:

If something sticks out over 3 feet behind your truck.... it needs a red flag on it.

If something sticks out over 6 feet behing your truck..... you need a permit to haul it.

There is also a "law" about how far something can stick out on the side of your vehicle....but don't remember what is the distance.

I haul a 12' Al boat with a Go-devil on the back using a 8 foot bed truck......and put a red flag on it.

yea the 1436 is like a canoe. thats why its on the chopping block. I'm gonna sell it soon and swap it with a 1548 I'm building in pieces. I'm trying to find a trailer and once I get one the whole rig is gonna fund the motor for the new one

yea well im undecided im in quite the pickle right now,im fixen to sell my 20ft cc wellcraft cause its in ms and it wont fit in the carport at my house im at now and im not movin back for 2 years, and sell my truck to get a lil bit better vehicle we're fixen to have a baby so the plan is to get a lil newer truck and an aluminum boat just tryin to narrow down the boat cause id like the option of throwin it in the bed but a 14ft-15ft boat doesnt seem legal

if you have a camper on the truck or get you a bed rack you can haul over your cab or get a suv and load on top
