Default 2 stroke(optimax) vs 4 stroke

Its another one of these threads guys.

I am starting to dig on the market for a used center console bay boat. I have been pretty set on the idea of getting a four stroke due to gas mailage, and the fact I have personal experience with yamaha and suzuki 4 strokes with no complaints.

Well I hit a snag. I found a boat that I will be looking at today that I really like so far. It is a 06 Kenner 1800 and it has (assuming 06) Mercury Optimax 115Hp on it.

Do yall have any reccomendations or advice here? Perhaps anyone that has switched from one to the other? What have yall heard good or bad about the 06 era Merc Optimax? Hold up in saltwater?Gas mileage?

Should I stick with getting a Yama or Zuki four stroke? Thanks.

I have the same boat with a 05 Suzuki 115. I get about 5 mpg.(if i take it easy) But also have a buddy with a 225 optomax on a 23' mako that runs very good and it was pretty good on fuel. I think they are both good. With the opitmax even with good mps you still have to add oil. Witch in the end makes your cost per gal higher.

Don't worry bout it, increase the snowballs by Fitty cent to cover the added expense.

For the weekender the optimax will be fine . The cost of oil will not be enough to offset the cost of a fourstroke for years ,when used on a weekend basis. I run an Opti on my guide boat and it gets very good fuel mileage.I have yet to burn over 18 gals in a single trip .

Me and Trey have fished side by side at the rocks in JB. I burned like 15 gallons and he burned 13 or 14.

Went and looked at that boat tonight and that SOB was slick! Optimax looked and sounded awesome. Cranked right up from a cold start.

Got an 06 opti on 18 Kenner and it always cranks first start and I can make 3-4 trips running from cpoint to west cove etc and back cruising 4500 mph on 32 gallon tank. Very economical pkg and doesn't mess with towing fuel mileage much. Only lose 1.8 mpg while towing. That little boat will chew up a chop too. Is it a vision series or rolled hull? Hope it works out for. Will make a great boat

Anybody know who makes Kenners? I cant find any websites for them and the arent listed on NADA.com. I had thought it may have been Tracker Marine, but its not.

Kenner was built by Tracker ,but it may have been completely replaced by the Mako and Nitro line ....

Great looking boat. Like the yellow. He has it set up nice on the inside. Make sure to have the motor hooked up to get a read out and I'd ask him if he's ever had any power pack issues. I've got a 90 opti on mine and half a load and alone with wind at my back I've gotten it to 44.6mph. Runs 39-40 loaded down with 3 people. So that rig should scoot!
What's he asking for it?

he said he gps'd it at around 47mph loaded. Asking 14K, little high.

They had another guy there yesterday that said he was deciding between this boat and another boat this morning. So it may be gone. If not it wont last long.
