I get mad when I see this crap. I only get 9 days a year to fish snapper and you only get 2. Then if the weather is bad then tough luck wait till next year. Federal laws need to change for the average guy trying to fish snapper. Just venting!!!

Sport fishermen just don't get it The Feds don't want a recreational fisheries for snapper. Give it time and redfish/ specks will become just like snapper fishing. All reef fish will become managed under the Feds and Gulf counsel with historic regulations against the sports. |

It is terrible that this is allowed. I sure hope that someone with political connections will eventually be able to change this.
It should be a hint that buddy's show only lasted a few episodes!!! |

I would prefer to see a larger share go to sporting anglers than to commercial fishermen.
However, I think there are plenty of red snapper to support the current harvest levels, and in fact, there is strong evidence that even higher harvest levels are sustainable. There are lots of red snapper. Sustainable harvest levels is a different issue from how the numbers are apportioned between commercial and recreational fishers. |

It's ashamed how much regulation has caused the offshore fishing to decline for recreational anglers. That's what the government wanted to do in the first place. If the private boats have declined then there is no voice to oppose the regulations for private anglers. Only commercial fishermen get to do the offshore thing. But even they are getting screwed by the share holders who don't even have to fish. The just sub contract out their shares. I remember when redfish was a commercial fish and gill netting was used to harvest these fish, the blackened redfish was on every menu. Then the population started to drop. Well now that red fish can't be caught for resale commercially they have came back stronger than ever. I wish they would just band the Red Snapper for commercial catch. That would be awesome due to the length of time they need to grow. I think that a 25 lb snapper is around 15-20 years old. I might be off on the low side but they can live up to 40 years.

there are so many red snapper out there, I just don't see how the commercial guys can't keep however much they are allowed and on top give recreational guys more time and up it to 5 fish limits.
I've only been offshore 10-12 times in the last 3 years (not with a guide), and the red snapper were literally at every single stop. After my first 3 trips out, i wouldn't even fish for them with normal tackle. I'd chum them up and throw bass baits at them. Chug bugs and rattle traps btw, tons of fun lol |

Thanks Biggun, I'm forwarding these and the other links far and wide. Hope Graves can do something about it now that Melancon is gone.
