Can't i just use a Walmart cast net? I've thrown some friends nets, so I know how to do it but don't know much about it. I've never really fished with bait so this is all new to me. I can't get a hold of any bait shops really. Either the phone numbers are old or they don't answer. Few that I did talk to don't sell croaker.

Can y'all elaborate on throwing in canals? Anything I should look for? Depth of water? Clarity? Size of canal?
