Electric knives....
I would imagine this has been discussed before . I tried electric knives years ago , mister twister and american angler , both were junk and I stayed with my good ole fillet knife...Well arthritis has caught up with me and I guess I got to cave in and go electric...I see these rapala heavy duty...Anybody use these ? Any good ? What is any good that will stand up to red ribs ? I've seen those reciprocating saw setups but they would probly be too heavy for me...I ain't concerned with price if it will get the job done without having to let cool down...

Don't know of any standard electric knife that will stand up long to them rib bones.Fillet from the tail to the head and let the blades ride over the ribs

Go to Google and look up sawzall filet knife, I have a friend that has one and it cuts through everything

Yea I looked at those and saw them in action but the weight would be too much for me...I saw them cutting from tail to head . That's pretty much how I clean them now but I like to make sauce pincant with the ribs . I guess I'll try the heavy duty rapala and try sheet metal shears on the rib bones. I use a dexter skinner knife now which is one bad knife but the arthritis is just get'n too bad...

Find and old GE and have the blades sharpen well. Mine is over 20 years old.

If you can find a small round Arkansas stone, about 1/4" in diameter, you can sharpen the serrated blade of most any quality knife and it will improve the cutting ability dramatically! It just takes about 3-4 quick quick back and forth swipes at the proper angle to get the job done and takes about 3 minutes for a pair of blades.

Does anyone else do this: I use an electric only for taking the skin off of trout.
I like cutting the meat off a trout with a good straight blade, but find I have to "handle" the delicate meat of a trout too much to take the skin and scales off of a trout. I don't like the two step process, but i do like the result. |

Any use one of those expensive newish American angler electric knives? I think I read they have metal gears.
I don't mind electric knives but I'm usually too lazy to pull out the extension cord so I just use the manual. |

American Angler knives
By far the American Angler knife blade is the best, but the motors aren't as good as the blade. I recently bought their top of the line motor, that wasn't supposed to overheat, but it does as well, at a cost of almost $100
If they could ever improve the motor, no other knife could compete with them. I do have an old saltwater series that I bought many years ago and it has the best motor. I can't seem to find this model anymore. If I could I would buy another one. |
