Cigar minnows!!! LOL!!!

I went offshore with one bag of minnows since we always catch our bait. This day, for some reason, I could not find any bait. Kind of had me worried for a while!!!!! My wife threw in a bag of cigar minnows we had in the freezer for over a year, and thank God she did!!! We finally caught some hard tails and turned them into some nice snapper filets!

Where did you guys launch from?

Launched out of Freshwater City. I caught mullet right by the launch. Worked great for first four then couldn't cach a thing after that The boat that pulled up next to us gave us some porgies and the first three drops we netted our 2 biggest snapper. One 12 lbs and one 11 lbs.
Had a huge Ling come right up to boat before ya'll got there 'but wouldn't bite anything we threw at it. What did you catch yours on?
Did ya'll catch any triggerfish? They were everywhere.

Same here man, it's amazing how this site brings people together. We launched in Grand Chenier and I was surprised to see anyone at that rig. We caught all of ours on the upcurrent side of the platforms we fished, biggest was in the 1st picture posted on this thread. Both of our ling came off of white bucktail jigs w/ black eel trailers. We had two nice ones, nothing to brag about, but about noon we had some monsters!!! We had 3 big boys togehter on a satellite caisson well to the west. I told my 15 y/o to grab his Calcutta 400 and get to the front of the boat. The jig was not in the water 2 seconds when the biggest one inhaled it! I told my wife, now we are getting ready to see some $hat! The fish spit the hook after 2 short runs. I hollered at him to stick him harder next time.

You guessed it, 1 minute later they came back and he sticks the second one. He watched him drive the hook twice into this fish w/ powerpro line screaming. Somehow, he lost that one as well!!! He was not a happy camper!! Those fish were well over the 50# mark. Haven't seen any that big in our area for years.

Did you guys see any tripletail in the grass mats. I was very disappointed for that, but the grass seemed a little farther out than normal.

Cabwiz2 - if you don't mind me asking, how much fuel did you burn that day? Trying to see how that 4 stroke did.

No the grass wasn't all that thick on my run in. Stopped by one for a few minutes ,but din't see any life.
I burned just over 45 gallons. Should have been better but was following that boat that gave me the bait and he was heavy handed on the throttle. I was averaging 2.2 mpg going out there and coming back in I got 2.7 to 2.8 mpg going around 35 mph

Well, considering I never turned mine off all day, I thought the ole' Yammy did well. We fished the grass hard on the way in looking for some tail, but they were not there. Grass was pretty thick further to the west. Glad we got ours this past weekend, just got a call they closed all of the offshore waters off of LA.

SUCKS********>> These aholes from the federal government don't know squat!!
