Gator tail.....they are faster and easier to work on. They both break eventually.

Now I have always pushed Gatortail and had bad luck with mudbuddy. But I have to say, I will probably be trading in my Gatortail for a new sport H after next duck season. Thing is the wave of the future in mud motors and definitely built to withstand a beating. The gear drive is the same gears used in 650hp race boats. They have a vid online of a guy going wide open forward and just slamming it in reverse. Boat was like it locked up the brakes and took off backwards. If definitely look into them before making your final decision

I own a PD and love it. Depending on your application of the motor is what would be the deciding factor in which one to buy. The FPR on the PD is great for backing off islands or cutting trails...it has gotten me out of rather hairy situations. The GTR are a bit faster and maneuver better if you run nothing but mud. As far as being easy/difficult to work on? They are the same Briggs engine...one has a vertical shaft (PD) the other a horizontal (GTR) so I don't see how one is easier to work on than the other.

On a side note...before you buy into the mud buddy sport V or sport H...they started taking deposits on the motor about this time last year. First release date was set to be August, then pushed back a month, another and another and so on and so forth...the first V got to a customer and broke off the transom backing down the launch...since then the release date was pushed more...they are finally starting to roll out but are few and far between. I would be careful until it has proven itself.

I just bought a 17x54 Gator Tail with the 35GTR and I love it. I like the instant reverse of the GT. I look at the Pro Drive and after seeing many with lower unit issues I made my choice to go with a Gator Tail. I have the extreme hull and that thing will turns and handles great. Also I think the Gator Tails perform better than Pro Drive when running a hard bottom as well. The only plus I found with the Pro Drives is that they have a lil less tiller torque. I will be getting back from South Korea around the second week of April and would be more than willing to take you out in the boat.

Both are good but gator tail has more pluses than pro drive. Pro drive has a awesome reverse but that's about the only thing better than gt.
