Me and Robert (bohunterbiff) met up at the bridges on vernon lake about 4:45am. We threw from the bridge under the light at rising bait, no luck. We decided to launch the canoes into the lake about 5:15am. I just let the slight breeze push me towards the ball of shiners. I made a cast to the left and snagged a 1/2 lb crappie. Threw next cast and caught a nice shad. Slung him off hook and kept throwing into bait. After about 10 minutes of casting into bait ball and nothing, I decided to paddle to the lilies. As I was paddling under the bridge, I felt a "BUMP" under the canoe. There was a huge splash to my left side and I could see the tail of a "huge" gar go back to the bottom. Scared to death, I paddled faster. Made it to the lilies and started off with a spook. Multiple blowups from small fish (gar I suppose). At about 6:10am, I picked up a white buzzbait. Made first cast, nice 3+lb bass, got off right by the boat. Thought it was going to be an awesome day, boy was I wrong. Made several casts with spro frog, ribbits, and buzzbaits into the lilies, couldnt buy another hit. Seen some schoolies busting out in the middle of the lake. Me and Robert met up and paddled out, by the time we got there, nothing was hitting anymore. The water in Vernon lake is very low. I encourage anyone to be extremely cautious when motoring in this lake. I had to get out and "walk" the canoe across 8" of water about 400' off the bank.
All in all, I caught 1 nice one and a few pickles and robert caught a few small pickles. We came home, rested up and had us a cook-out/fish fry. Good friends, good food, and good fun.
No pics, we didnt keep any fish.
