I've always thought fresh fish was the best bait also. Whenever I go crabbing, I start with turkey or chicken but always try to catch a few fish. Bass, trout, croakers, reds ...shouldn't really matter.

You using a crab trap with a bait box?
If so go with fish carcasses. When I hand line I use chicken leg quarters. |

I found any fresh fish was better then store bought bait but not catfish, I caught hard head cats one time to use for bait and still caught a few but it was like half what you normally catch so you could tell that it wasn't a very good a bait.
seams even crabs don't want to eat hard heads if they have a choice |

The gulp turkey neck thing was funny as hell.
Caught five dozen Saturday at the Rock using melt. Could have caught more but had to leave because of the time. Still missed the tourney weigh in |
