Default New gun for my daughter

Looking to buy a gun for my daughter I think I have it narrowed down to a 25-06 or a 7mm-08.. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

7mm-08 or .243. Just from experience both kill deer. Don't know much about the 25-06

Bought my wife a 7mm-08 . It is her first gun . Made tge mistake of buying her a more light weight rifle she could carry in the woods . She had no major issues shooting it when we sighted it in but it did kick more than I expected. I think a heavier version would be better. When I was in Africa hunting my wife used a .243 with a suppressor and she loved it, felt like a pellet rifle. Now that suppressors are legal to hunt with in louusuana maybe this is an option for your daughter ?

You can get a muzzle break put on any rifle for a few hundred bucks. Will cut recoil in half but be sure to protect your ears.

Rifle weight and barrel length are important considerations, as well as style of hunting and the lady's experience with other guns. My wife had no problem killing deer reliably with a sported weight .308 or rifled 20 gauge. Most youths preferred a heavy 25-06 (Remington 700 Sendero). These days, my daughter prefers a heavy 6.5x284 (Rem 700 custom) or a really heavy .300 Win Mag. Her hunting style is to walk out to a spot, settle in like a sniper, and wait.

7mm-08 is my favorite deer rifle now. Got one for the wife a few years back (Thompson Center crack barrel). Its lightweight, no kick, accurate, and puts them down. I found myself using her gun each time I went in the woods with a gun. I even bought myself one.

I inherited another one from my sister I am probably going to sell as it is just collecting dust. Been in the cabinet for 3 years, been shot maybe 10 times. remington 700 stainless/synthetic, nikon 3x9x40. $700 and you can have it if interested pm me.

I can't remember for sure....... but I think for the 7mm-08 you can buy a "reduced recoil" load bullet. This option would allow your daughter to get use to shooting the gun with out much "kick".

Then have some of the regular loads for hunting.... but don't tell her and she will never know the difference when she gets a shot at a deer.

Bought a 7mm 08 for my son a few years back and like Duck Butter I used it a few times and fell in love with it. ...... I am not a fan of recoil at all so I bought myself a 25 06 also a fine gun but you need a longer barrel to stabilize the bullet ..... If your daughter can handle the recoil of a 243 she can handle a 7mm 08 with much better ballistics

They do make managed recoil in 7mm-08.

I know some people will say its way too small but I have a .223 wssm and my wife shot a doe with it at 120 yards. She put a perfect heart shot on it and the deer only went about 50 yards and fell dead. She shot it with a 62 grain Winchester soft point. The gun has hardly any recoil at all and is crazy accurate.

When my daughter was younger I brought her a 243. She loves the rifle still uses it and dropped deer and hogs in there track over 100 yards, I also used it a few times and can't say anything bad about the gun.

I bought a .243 cal bolt action rifle over 25 years ago and shoot the 100 gr Cork-lok bullets. Never had a reason to change, most deer drop when hit.

Here is one killed last year.

7mm-08rem with a 140grn Nosler Accubond bullet is the angel of death for deer and hogs. Very easy cartridge to shoot also.

I agree with the calibers mentioned here. See nothing about which brand of rifle. Not sure how much you want to spend, but I bought my daughter a Savage Axis in .243 with the thought it would be an inexpensive way to make sure she liked it, before shelling out on a nice rifle. I have to say I was very surprised how accurate and comfortable this little rifle is. Right out the box, she was shooting 1" groups at 100 yards. She loves it, still uses it, and does not want another. This rifle sells for about $300, plus whichever scope you prefer.
