Default Empire on Sunday

Bought some baits today and was just wondering what everyone thought I should try. I got some DOA shrimp, sand eel jr's, some top water baits, and some bayou chubs. Any ideas on what to use and did I not get something I should have?

Never fished there before, but you can't go wrong with any of those baits. Maybe some gulp swimming mullet for flounder and reds, maybe some gold spoons. If your mainly going after trout, any of those baits you bought will work fine. For the DOA try rigging it about 2' under a rattle cork.

Actually, I did get some gold spoons. I forgot to mention those. What does the cork do and do you have any idea why it works so well?

Suspends the bait, sometimes trout will suspend instead of being on the top or on the bottom. When im having a hard time catching, sometimes the cork is what they want. If you get the rattle corks it makes a clicking sound that sounds alot like a scared shrimp. I normally use a sparkle beatle under a cork, but the DOA will work fine....there just so expensive for what you get. You can pick up a 10 pack of beatles for about 2.50

everytime i fished empire with one of my buddies who likes to fish down there, we limited on trout on black cocahoe minnow with chartreuse tail on 1/4 or 3/8 oz jighead. just takes me 5 hours to get there from lafayette, so i only go like once or twice a year.

Real down to earth guy. Had a blast fishing with family and friends. Caught roughly 500 trout and 30+/- reds over 30 lbs and about the same with black drum. Got knocked off the board at the last minute with my redfish. Got beat by .04 lbs.... .04 LBS !!!!!!!!! are you serious ??? I was hot, but cooled down with the awesome drinks at the marina restaurant and all the hot ladies running around... All in all, it was an awesome experience and im fo sho doing it again next year !!!![/QUOTE]
