I rode by on Monday coming back from a job and I didn't see much seaweed. Granted there was a 15 mph wind and the water looked like a good fricassee.

Bump.
My family along with Ace and his family plan on camping on Rutherford beach this weekend. Its a 3 hour drive down for us both. Lot of wasted time and $ for us if the beach isn't fishable. Can deal with seaweed on the beach as long as the surf is fishable. Any heads up would be great. |

I'm pulling my camper to the Cameron Jetty RV park Thursday evening. The web site does not mention WiFi being available so if you have a phone number you can PM me I will txt you Friday and let you know what the seaweed condition is like.

You can walk on water its so thick down in Galveston and Surfside out this way. Seen some pics that'll make you shake your head. Never seen it that bad.
Been having to fish Surfside Jetties out abut 200-500 yds from the beach to get away from it. |

Just wondering. What makes you want to go to Rutherford over Holly? Fishing on west side of channel is a lot better IMO, especially trout. Seems like it cleans up a lot better as well. I would go to Holly Beach or west towards Johnson Bayou.

think that the reason we were headed that way was because you can still drive directly on the beach at rutherford... whereas now on holly you have to park quite a long distance away.

Because if it aint broke don't fix it. Rutherford has been good to us. We used to fish the west side of the channel until the beach was restored and closed off to vehicles. Now we fish Rutherford for our bull reds. Dont see the need in riding around checking new spots when I know where I can go and catch fish.

Its tough for us to get down there for more than one day. Drive three hours fish like hell and drive three hours back home. If I can ever get down for a few days I would like to go west and do some exploring.

If you go west past holly beach you can drive on the beach. I reccomend the jetty pier park if the reds aren't biting. YOu can walk the rocks as far as you want. There are trout there if you can get past the seaweed. Matrix shad worked well for me. There is a good eve bite there. Fish start blowing up the water around 7p.m. Happened last three times ive been there.

I went to Rutherford last weekend to ride 4 wheelers. The water was terrible zero visibility with an abundance of seaweed. So much seaweed on the beach you could smell it, of course it was after to be rain, wind, and bad weather we received last Friday. If i had to guess it wouldn't be much different this weekend as far as beach condition. I didn't see a single person fishing from the beach either.
