Default Gas prices out side La.

WHY is gas in Toledo Ohio $1.79 when it's not refined there?
I am on a fishing site for the Ohio area and the prices all over the state are cheaper than we have here.

There are 5 refineries in Ohio including 2 in Toledo. Approx 20% of the US gasoline is refined in the mid-west.

I checked the tax rate and it doesn't justify that big of a gap, they are only $.02 higher than Louisiana.

It's all about marketing strategy, I asked the marketing guys at the refinery where I used to work and the answer that I got was "The price is set by whatever the market will bear".
The pump price has little to do with transportation or delivery costs.
MidWest, PAD 2, does have 20% of US refining capacity, OHIO has only 3% of that.
GulfCoast, PAD 3, has 51% of US refining capacity, Louisiana has 18% of that and Texas has 29%. It's not fair its whatever the market will bear.

It's all about blending fuels and what the market will bear. Gas sold in LA is not the same gas sold in Ohio. And I would assume that most gas produced in Ohio never sees the pumps in Ohio.

It's like 2.14$/g here on base and steadily going down. Found some about 40 miles northwest of us in Waverly for 1.99$/g

That's when the Dilbert in me decided that I wanted to be in marketing where I didn't have to justify every project had an acceptable ROI. Of course that didn't happen, Oh well.

When I am up north I see the base Octane is 85 and 86. I've never seen it below 87 in Louisiana. So the blend definitely has something to do with it.
