I would guess the passenger had 2 broken kneecaps. Word to the wise, it's a lot smoother in the back of the boat. I learned the hard way on an offshore trip. 3 broken ribs and broken tailbone. That was on the way OUT... Didn't want to ruin the trip for my buddies so I spent then next 20 hours at sea. That was a 'nightmare' trip...
