Default Best Places for bank fishing around New Orleans?

I live in New Orleans and want to take my son bank fishing, but I am not entirely sure where to go.

Ideally I would be interested in places with potential for reds/trout, but also acceptable would be place(s) more suitable for bass type fishing.

I did google around a bit, but most of the guides I saw were from 2009 or before, so I was hoping for a more updated list.

I think my limit would be a 1 hour drive from the city, but if a place is really nice then I could go further.

Thanks for any help!

I agree. I know it's a bit further than you wanted to drive, but the bank fishing in NO is mediocre at best. We moved to NO when I was 11 and remained until college. I can't believe my dad never took us to Grand Isle. It is awesome compared with the action available closer.

Thanks for the help. I googled highway 1 and it is quite a long road... Any hints/tips on where to go off the banks in grand isle or is that each fisherman's secret sauce?

fish moving water...the canals that cut under the road or other spots where you see water moving around points or through culverts.

Fish the lakes in city park for freshwater action

you can also fish in slidell on the road that leads to dockside marina where it makes the big curve or along hwy 11 in a couple spots

Used to catch a few bass in City Park ponds. Were supposed to buy a cheap permit but never did. This was a few years back.

Definitely look for water moving from one side to the other side of the road either by culvert or one of the small bridges. But there are a some really good spots that don't cross the road. Some of my best trout have come from there. Basically if you look at a spot and think it looks good then give it a try. You never know. Give it a few minutes and then move on. If a spot isn't producing it can turn on later in the day. For me I always take the right on the toll bridge instead of heading straight to Fourchon and work my way towards Grande Isle giving my spots a try along the way.

Not sure how old your kid is but be extremely careful along the road. People fly up and down Hwy 1!!!!

Good Luck!
