Default Beach Conditions

How is the beach looking? I'll be out very early Thursday to catch the Perseid meteor shower and set up to do some fishing. I'm trying to decide if I should head up to Deep Bayou and try for some trout back toward the end of the road, or just set up at the beach. If the water is clear enough, I'd rather just stay there all day. Thanks for any info.

Should be awesome until at least Sunday. This little wave of energy has turned the wind to north and that should settle things pretty quick in the surf. Even if it's just sandy when you get there thursday it should be sufficient. I have over the last 6-7 years paid less and less attention to water clarity as long as the indicators are there. Read the water and hunt down the fish. Those fish live there everyday and eat almost silent, nearly transparent creatures that don't have rattles in them. AND they find them in the dirtiest of water conditions even in the dark of night. Just use darker baits and louder baits and they'll find it if you locate and put yourself in fish.

have fun.

The Perseid meteor shower should be superb this year, starting tonight 11 pm. New moon, hopefully clear skies. Praying for clear skies on the coast this Friday night, too.

Thanks for the help. I really wanted to just set up on the beach anyway. That way I can get there early and enjoy the meteors as I set up. Look to the northeast if you get a chance to watch them. They should peak in the hours just before sunset. Maybe 100 an hour!

The beach looked great today. Just a light ripple, and I would say 8-10 inch visibility. I caught my first speck in the surf on live shrimp. No big accomplishment, but I was excited to get my first in the surf. It was 11 inches, so this one won't be going on the wall.... There were a couple guys near me. One caught a few small trout, and the other caught 4 that all went better than 15 inches. What was hot, was the redfish bite. I switched from trout to reds around 10:00, or whenever the sun came out. I caught 4 in 2 1/2 hours that ranged from 35 to 42 inches. I had another that was in that range, but he gave me a massive head jerk about 30 yards out and snapped a swivel on my leader. It was time to change it anyway. The bait was as crazy as I've ever seen it this morning. I caught 26 shrimp in one cast net throw. They were squarely in the bait range, so I most definitely had to buy some to bring home to the Mrs. The key to catching the Bulls on the beach today was double rigged, cut ladyfish. They were on those like crazy. I could only fish one rod because they were hitting so fast for that couple hours. All in all, another great day on the water!

Good report AF. I didn't fish yesterday, just drive by the beach every day.
