Default Super Strike Charters--Venice, La.

Venice, La. Offshore Fishing Report—Super Strike Charters-5/31/2015.

The offshore fishing has been good this second half of May. We have had a lot of windy weather so we were limited on a fair amount of trips. But, we are moving in the calmer months of the year so everyone is looking forward to so much nicer weather. The Tuna fishing has been fair, but they have been on the smaller side. Most Yellow fin as of yesterday are averaging about 25-30lbs. Some years this is the norm, so you take what you get. Now, there have been some big ones out there, the Cajun Canyons billfish classic results were finalized on 5/30 and the winning Tuna was 127lbs. So, the big boys are out there, they have just been tough to get on. Capt. Scott reported seeing 100-150lbers. busting on flying fish this past week, but couldn’t get on top of them. It will be any day that the tuna average goes back up to 80-90lbs. The rip lines have been producing a good amount of Mahi Mahi, so they are their for the taking. The big news is that Red Snapper season opens on June 1st, 2015 and will remain open in federal waters until July 15th, 2015 for federally permitted charter vessels. The avg. size snapper this year is about 15lbs.but, there are much bigger ones out there to catch as well. Mangrove Snapper, Cobia, and Grouper are also being caught right now, at the end of the day our customers have had some incredible eating fish to take home with them. Yesterday, Capt. Scott ran the Jones crew out of Alabama, they opted to go for reef fish and did very good. They had a mixed bag of Scamp Grouper, Amberjack, Cobia, and a few Mangrove snapper. Most of our groups like to mix it up chasing Tuna and Red Snapper so we can do both in one day. We still have some open boats during the month of June and July. The fishing should be excellent down here in Venice as always this time of the year.
