Headknocker Motor Guide or Minn-Kota

Just about to buy a new trolling motor. What's the motor of choice here? I'm thinking Minn-Kota riptide 70 lb of thrust without variable speed or should I go with the motor guide. Motor Guide has a couple more lbs. of thrust but a two inch shorter shaft.

minnkota riptide=god choice. I have this trolling motor in the 3x. It took some getting used to at first but now I love it. You can turn the boat on a dime.

That is like the Ford VS Chevy or MERC vs Yamaha......I have a 80# MK pro....The gas boot lift assist is great.

well the minnkota are like the cadilacs of the trolling motor world lol what kind of fishing are you doing and what size boat do you have. If your inshore fishing, I'd go with the longest shaft I can find. And depending on the boat size I'd get a 36V trolling motor. When it comes to fishing, I want the best of the best.

I have had both on bay boats for the last 9 years. Three different boats and 3 different trolling motors. I currently have the Riptide 36v - 101# monster. Needed some work done the other day and got to meet Mr. Ray down in Houma. I asked him a simple question since he is a dealer for both: "Which is the best trolling motor to buy if I needed a new one today"? Simple question and he gave me his opinion: Minn Kota.

Repair cost and availability of parts was his reason. I will stick w/ Minn Kota, because I have had both, and both required repairs!

I think you made a very good choice....BTW, I have asked an owner of a troll motor repair shop around where I live pretty much the same questions that FFF asked....I was told the MinnKota are less noisy and he said I wil not say which one is better but I will tell you this much....I own this repair shop and I have a MinnKota on my boat....I think I know the answer.
