I am in the market, but how good is garmin and easy to use versus a lowrance. I owned a lowrance hand held and a bigger model in a offshore boat. I really like lowrance and they are easy to use. anyone have feedback on experiences?

I can tell you this, the new Lowrance units S U C K !!!!!! Maybe I didn't make myself clear!!!!!!! Really SUCK!!!!! Not sure why the engineers switched up everything, but we hate the new unit we put on my dad's boat. I have had good luck w/ Garmin in the past, but will probably go with Rayethon on my next new unit purchase.

also there is a man that sells the vision cards on ebay. he is out of canada. i got the one that covers brownsville to key largo for 119. all the others wanted between 450 and 500 for that card. the small cards split at calcasieu or sabine lake i can't remember. I got my card in today i will report back if i have any problems with it

Garmin's customer service is awesome. No outsourcing to foreign countries and extremely knowledgeable of their products. I have never owned or ridden in a boat with a Lowrance unit so I can't give any insight there. But I have been very happy with all of my Garmin units.

Garmin is in my book the easiest unit to use, personally though their sounder is lacking compared to Lowrance though. The Garmin rebates will work with any dealer

Thanks for the welcome! I have been selling and installing marine electronics for over 10 yrs and Lowrance has always cornered the market for inshore sounders. Offshore Furuno is the ticket. I had a Garmin 545s in my kayak last year and could not stand the sounder for inshore fishing. Compared the 545s to a $70.00 Eagle and the Eagle had better target seperation, bottom definition, and water column targets. Now I have a Eagle 640c and it works incredible
