Default Yesterday offshore

Hi Guy's.

Made one last trip for snaps. Got a late start...Made bait at rollover... Off we went..

Greeted with west winds about 10 knots. Loped out at a comfortable 25 MPH.

Got about 25 miles out.. Where water was blue Sunday. No go. Made out to our distination and water never turn blue...

Well we start pulling a couple dusters. Second wrap around the rig, Bam, reel starts screaming..

2 minutes later a legal king hits the net.. Tell my partner lets go catch some snaps.

We set up up current and I get one large live mullet down. After several minutes I tell my friend lets reel up..

As i'm reeling up, wham.. rod bends over and drag screams.. I know my the run its not a snap.. Tell my friend get the gaff i've got a ling...

About a 5 minutes. he's up on the surface... I get him to the boat... I hand the rod to my friend and tell him to hold on...

I gaff him in the head and bring him into boat all in one motion...

Nice 35-38# der...

Well we go to another rig.. We get about 50 yds up current from the platform

and find a can hole from a jackup boat... fishfinder screen is lit up.. We catch our 4 nice snaps... North we go..

Got within 10miles of rollover.. ahead of me it's black as for as the eyes can see to the west and east of me..

I hear on the VHF, someone sayin a boat was taking on water.. CG cutter was in the area and was on the radio...

As I got within 5 miles of rollover, I'm on outter edge of storm... Down draft winds starts.. as I got with 3 miles of rollover seas when from 2-3' to 5-6' out of the north east..

I'm side running in the troffs, and then over the white caps.. Winds blowing 40knots.. My getting a little nervous as it's raining so hard I can change my lowrance HDS touch screen to find rollover.. I've got Verm 22 on my stern..

after about 15 minutes which seemed like hours I can spot the outline of the beach... get within 50 yrs of the beach and it's on 2-3' er. Get my gps and fingers some want dry for about 15 seconds.. Enough time to get to my steering page.

I was about 1/2 mile west of rollover... It's still raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock... Get into rollover and as I slow down to go thru the pilings my friend and I both say a prayer of thanks..

If I'd have known it was going to get that bad.. I would have tied up to verm 60 . about 10-12 miles out.. where it was still sun shine..and let the weather get well onshore..

Now its only blinding rain all the way to to the landing... Get the boat on the trailer..

We get into truck.. We are both like drowned rats. Boats safe, we safe and at pecan island store..

Luckily I have enough clothes I'd left from a dive trip Sunday to get in dry shorts..

Just be careful when U out there..

Glad you guys made it safe. Hope someone reads this and learns from this.
Last year I tried to run through one of those storms, luckily I hauled tail to wait it out while it passed.

Great job on the fish!

good thing you were in your Triton rather than my little Frontier 19. Congrats on a nice catch and glad you made it back in okay.

Glad you made it in safely! That's the reason I don't snapper fish in a bay boat. Been caught just outside of reefs and that was bad enough!
