Default question about josephs harbor

I only make my way to josephs harbor a couple times a year. Has anyone had any luck fishing the beaches outside the mouth for reds or trout? And i was also wondering if people do well fishing deep lake because i see boats heading that way when im at the mudhole. Its hard to tell with names these days but with a name like deep lake could, it could mean its shallow or deep. Thanks for any help or advice.

Default J Harbor

Fished the beach a couple of weeks ago, nothing but gaf tops. Caught a few reds in the dead end canals. I would suggest runnin g to the rigs, jump around till ya find them. Bring your bucket, with all them cast nets flying at the concrete weir it won't take long to fill the bait well.

Stayed at the camp three days midweek, shrimp is running fair, you have work for your limit. They are also small to medium, excellent size for bait shrimp. Speaking of bait, get yourself some live bait shrimp, pogeyes and mullets....we picked few bull reds at the mouth of gulf.... Bounced around the rigs for a few specks and Spanish...

Deep lake is very shallow. Some of dead end canals around it have some depth but most are silted in at the mouth. You can catch reds back there at certain times

the first set of good rigs are about 12 miles to the SW. water starts usually clearing up there.

The beach was a bust for me this past weekend. Winds and water were all over the place and couldnt get a good bite going on anything but hardheads and sharks.

Fished Rock today during flat tide(mid morning-mid afternoon). Water pretty muddy, alot of construction going on...fishing v/ slow. I wouldn't go back tomorrow even if I could, a few grouchy crabbers hanging around the weirs. I'm guessing the crabbing was slow too, with shrimp the same...........
