Default Lacassine 5-27

Made a quick trip to lacassine yesterday. Only caught one fish but it sure is beautiful out there. Could see and got bites by some dink bass. Could see the freshly stocked fingerlings all over the place.

Nice job Cory. Thanks for the report. I really wish the folks runnin that place would shut it down for a couple years or at least go to catch and release to give what fish are left a chance to recuperate.

Nobody loves that place more than me, but if people don't keep running the canals and trails, only the folks with shallow drive motors will be able to access the fishing areas, the canals are already getting thick with under-growth and you can feel the grass on your motor just riding down the main canals, another reason I like to go is the sense of relaxation of being in that beautiful marsh, dead quite except for wildlife sounds, casting around knowing you probably won't catch anything, but that is ok cause it sure is peaceful.

i love lacassine too, but IMHO it needs some time to recover with little or no pressure and the only way to truly achieve that is a catch and release or slot limit. they shut it down, then did a catch and release and slot after the drought of 99-00 i believe it was. i dont remember the canals being choked with vegitation, but many of the former 'ponds' were very overgrown.... but all we had to do was run in, cut a dozen or so donuts in the grass, come back in 20 minutes, toss out a gold spoon with a #11 pork frog trailer in the newly made holes and smoke em, good fish too, 3-5lbers were everywhere that year.

get 200, 40hp outboards out there on opening day after a couple closed seasons... see how fast those canals open up!

We did see lots of good sized blowups and swirls, bait jumping all over getting chased. A few massive blowups, whether it was bass or choupique I dont know.

I miss the old days at laccasine. Best day ever was biggest 5 fish went just over 40 lbs. A 10, three 8+, and a 5. Lost count of how many 4 & 5's caught that day. All fished where released except the 10. It was the last fish of the day and my brothers best bass ever. He mounted it. After laccasine went to cr@p I sold my boat and got a bigger one to salt water fish. Hope it comes back around soon.

Made a trip out there yesterday just to check it out since I only been once this year. Caught one that would have been big enough to keep, but I let him go. Tons of baby fish about 6 inches long that r really aggressive, they chase your bait and rip the tails off every couple cast. Hope they r that aggressive when they get big!! But as said earlier the trails between little north and cane pond r pretty much non existent as of right now.
