Angry Worst Opening day in years

Had one of the worst opening day hunts in years. Water level was right, good NW wind, overcast, cool, but not many birds. We managed to only bag 6 teal and should have had about 6 more if we would have shot better earlier. Chalk that up to opening day rust.

Don't understand that as we saw a lot of birds the last 2 weeks in the marsh. We hunt South of Vinton south of the Intracoastal around Burton's Ditch area.

Kinda had same thing happen to me this morning in PecanIsland but we still came out with 3 man limit of birds do to an abundance of squelers. All of the birds we had early this week didn't bother to show this morning but i think the weather will be better overall in the a.m.

we got a 2 man limit. If you count the 3 spoonies. Gadwalls, teal and woodies in the mix. As usuall we had our fair share of misses and fly bys that we didnt get a shot at. headed in around 11AM.

So for so good for us in the Kaplan area.

Opening morning 4 of got 24 teal....mostly green wing
Today 4 of got 23 teal and 1 mottle duck and we shot like crap.....most of the teal were green wing like on SAT.

Tomorrow should be another good day if it can stay over cast with a light rain.

Cool pic's Raymond, looks like it was a good hunt. I need to put my old digital camera in my bag for such moments that you are sharing. Pic's must be from the Sat. hunt, short sleeves and short pants....That's what I call a tailgate party!

we shot 16 birds between 4 people in johnson bayou, was out decoyed by a guy 200 yds from me using 6 dozenish dekes while i was using only 2 doz, figured action was going to be fast and furious after seeing over a thousand birds around my blind friday but that was not the case, saturday got to hunt with fool at The Specklebelly Hunting Club in Welsh and had a 5 man limit of specks. What a good time that was, it was my first time actually targeting specks and what a rush it is haveing dem big bastids circling, surely fool will post with the pics because he got some real good ones.

It was a little slower for in in Kaplan this morning.......3 of us got 10 gw teal and 1 redhead. Saw a lot of birds but with no wind it was hard to get them to work. Also, we have big open water field about 1/2 to 3/4 mile for us which is now holding atleast 1K birds......

I know, our birds seemed well educated to. We actually quit using a MOJO today. Granted, we have done well so far this season but it just seems some of the birds are very leary of passing close to the decoys and the season has been open only 3 days...

i didn't use a mojo all last season and so far this season used it only during teal it makes a difference the big ducks flair on it almost every time they get close
