Default Water pump peephole problems

I friend of mine has a 1998 mercury 120 outboard. No water coming out pee hole with the hose connected to the lower unit.
Pull the thermostat housing off. It?s bone dry? He told me that the water pump was replaced. I told him it may have been installed the wrong direction If that makes sense. Any pointers for him?

I need a little more info.

Has this engine been run at all since the water pump impeller was changed. If so, did water come out of the pee hole? If no, I would take it back and have mechanic check it.

OR... the pee hole water line could be pugged up. Try blowing air or water back through the pee hole. Or you could use a small wire to stick into this line to try to unplug it.

Something else, that could be tried. Take boat to a boat launch and running the engine to check for water at pee hole. Or, put "ear muff" on the engine at home and see what happens.

If thermostat is dry then water for sure ain't gettin to pee hole. Impeller installed backwards and now destroyed

Or maybe the impeller key was not installed and the impeller is not turning.
