Default Cameron loop dredging approved

The dredging of the Cameron Loop and East Fork of the Calcasieu River is about to become a reality. On Tuesday evening the Cameron Parish Police Jury awarded the bid to King Fisher Marine, for $12,961,571.
Additional funds from the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration to cover the cost of beneficial spoil use in marsh creation had not been made available by the time the bids were opened, so the Jury chose to use the original plan to place spoil along the eroded coastline.
"They've had since January or February to get this money, and are no further along," said Thomas McDaniel. "We can't wait any longer." The bid amount included an additional $10,000 to remove sunken debris located outside the dredged channel. It will be 90 days or more before actual
dredging begins.
