As far as not all farmers making a killing...you're right. The farmers that are doing well will tell you, "You take out what you put into it." |

Farmers have them we want them what's the problem all you have to do is say no and not buy any problem solved. No need to get your panties in a wad over it.

Never implied the job was easy...or the fuel was cheap...or the equipment was free- as I'm sure farmers get no gov't assistance. Simply looking for the reason behind such a huge increase from one year to the next. Maybe I'm the only one that feels "the industry" seems to forget just who it is that made the industry to begin with. It's not the recipients of shipments out of state...it's not the restaurants. It's the little people like most of us here. And we're the ones getting the shaft. Without the little people there would be no "industry." I'm done.

If the markup is so great, maybe I should buy some ponds! Sounds like I could pay it off in Feb and, March! Nah, I still prefer my spillway bugs over pond!

The consumer sets the price. No matter what diesel cost, how cold the winter was, or how much it rains, the price is set on what the market will allow. Again, don't sell a pound for $2 when someone is willing to pay $10.

hell, i'd rather crawfish than work in the oilfield. the poor guy who fishes for a living just gets used by the dealers, weather it's fish, frogs, shrimp, crabs, or crawfish.
if u can't sell on the street, u are always gonna get screwed. |

What I find most interesting is that not very many generations back, crawfish were not considered a delicacy. Actually just the opposite - my grandparents would not eat them and couldn't believe we spent all day standing in the water to eat some 'ditch' food when there was plenty of other stuff to eat in the house.
