Default Beautiful Day

It was another beautiful morning but a bit windy.

The winds were just enough for us to stay inside. Mark wanted to go to the west and see how far we could nose out but when I got on the boat I suggested going to Brenton Island. I have been there several times this year and every time I went the conditions were bad and I did poorly. 200 live shrimp and off we went to "The Island".

There were a few boats already in putting some trout in the boat. Once I jockeyed for position It was "Game On". Trout on the back. Sheepshead on the side and redfish on the front.

While the guys were adjusting to the quick bite of the yellow mouth marauder I was busy handing out bait, netting, and basically running the deck. Mark found a school of redfish and we almost limited out right there. I think he was sitting in the class room with them. The island is noted for the trout but we did things different.

As it got closer to noon the bite slowed. I made a little adjustment and we put a few flounder in the boat. It was about noon and we had a good box of fish and only 2 redfish shy of our 25 limit so we headed back.

Knowing the fish are moving into the river I knew those 2 would be in the boat on our next stop if they were big enough. I headed back into Baptiste Collette and stopped in front of a canal. A few casts and we had our 2 keepers for our limit as well as another which we threw back.

We were back at the dock before 1:00 with a very nice catch. 25 reds, 14 trout, 10 flounder, and 3 sheepshead. We had the marina clean the fish while we went up to the restaurant for lunch.

Wish every day would be like this.
