Default Vermilion Bay Monday Morning Trip

I decided to brave the wind and head out to the bay. It was my birthday so I wanted to fish wind be damned. I hit the bay just before sunrise and managed to cross before the chop picked up too bad. Headed to a protected cove that some marsh drains into and found lots of bait on the surface. Water coming out of the marsh was pretty clean not great but good enough. Saw a couple of swirls I knew were redfish and casted to them without any luck. Just for the hell of it I tied a skitter walker on and on the first cast, BOOM. Caught a 30" bull that blew up on it like it owed him money. Threw topwater for the better part of an hour and didn't get as much as hint of a blow up. I could still see reds swirling but I guess I caught the only one with anger issues. Switched back to Black/Chart swim bait and caught 3 in about 20 min. The bite died out and the wind picked up and the water started going south. Ran to Fearman and caught a 16"er to finished out my limit and an accidental flounder. By this point the wind had gone from Ludicrous Speed straight to Plaid so I called it a day. Fearman and the Little Bay still had enough water in it for me to get across them so the ride home wasn't too wet. Was back at the house for 9:45. I managed to cheat the weather, snag a donkey on topwater, and catch a limit of reds in a crawfish pond. Pretty good birthday. The models are predicting six inches of rain across South Louisiana this week hope it doesn't jack up things for the rest of the spring.
