Default Just 1 big red

Well, I guess by merit of there being no pic posted, its obvious I didn't boat him. Me and a "kid bro" of mine fished yesterday afternoon...not exactly a good day, but a few moments of excitment.

Started at the locks, fished cuts goin up the left side headed toward the lake - nothin' just lady fish hittin'.

Fished just inside Prien, just south of casino's on west side...caught a catfish and missed a couple other fish - the kid felt like somethin' ate his spoon, but he didn't set the hook, who knows..

Then rode over across from LC port...that stretch of bank usually does good. Throwin' spoons whole time, btw...

1 red took my silver H20 spoon...wrapped me around a stump and broke my power braid! surprised me too! when i set the hook, I thought I accidentally set it into a stump, til he went to flashin around at the surface, then I realized I really had something. Good fight, then I could tell we hung up, then dead line.

Oh well...exciting. I tried fishing a golden spinner bait w/ a big colorado and a swim tail plastic on it...but it was tough to keep it from constantly hanging up in stumps or oyster beds. Someone suggested slow rolling it....not saying it was a bad suggestion...but any suggestions on keeping 'em "weedless" or "stumpless."

Maybe it was just too heavy and sunk too fast, bought it from bass pro...pretty stout bait. I would've thought w/ dryer weather, further into august and hot...the reds woulda been further up. Any help on this, y'all? I'm in a 16ft cajun boat w/ a 70...don't like to get too far out but I'd sure like to get into some fish!
