A gift from an old friend...

I recently had a friend pass away. When his apartment was being cleaned out, there were 3 rod and reels that were discovered. The man in charge of the operation thought that I would like to have them and he was right. I don't know much about them except that I think they are pretty old. They are all Penn offshore reels. I know that one rod is an Ambassador and not sure with the other two. The rods all have hardwood handles, which I found odd and also has led me to believe that they are rather old. Here's a few pics and I'll try to get some better ones soon.

They'll never be used again but, I do think I'll clean em up and redo to the rods and hang em up in the office at the shop unless someone knows more about em and thinks they are better left alone.

I have a rod/reel just like that middle one... Sraight wood handle, etc. Was my Great Grandfather's...

Very nice. Good reels too. I a similar Penn in the surf. Brother-in-law haw a couple he uses thar are probably around the same age as well. As long as you take care of them they will last forever. Still have sites online that you can find parts for any reel, old or new.

Those Penn reels were industructable. I used to sell the 309's like crazy. I would leave them alone and hang them up. My grandfather gave me tons of stuff that he and his father fished with. Balsa wood lures, line, and plenty old prop baits still in packages! Hold on to them!

not collectors items so you can fix them up and use them if you want, but hold on to them for the memory

Yeah man, these things are golden for me and it has nothing to do with monetary values! I don't know If I should leave em be or go forth with restoration. I'll do some more research first. After talking to Salty, he figures that the one with no spider gears may be kinda old.

Either way, they're great keepsakes!

Those look like they have some history behind them. Hold on to them, they are nice looking set ups.

I still snapper fish with the red one every year my dad passed it to me....it's a beast great reel

Corey, If you dont plan on using them i wouldnt restore them. id just put them on the wall!
