x2 on the hand surgeon consult. If the oral meds and rest don't do it, get a steroid injection. Easy to do. 10min office visit. They can mix the steroid with lidocaine, so you know instantly that it is going to work. The lidocaine wears off in several hours, and then the steroids start to kick in.

Rest, rest, rest. I know it's a pain to stop doing things you love such as fishing but but depending on the degree of inflamation it may take longer than you think. Glad that you took the steroid pack, that should help. Splinting your wrist should be done to give it some rest and as a reminder to you to not do stupid things with your hand. Elevating your hand above the level of your heart at night when sleeping may also help. Steroid injection is surely an option and it may take more than one injection BTW. Continue taking NSAID's (non-steroidal antiflamatory meds)-- such as Aleeve. It's a better over the counter med than Ibuprophen because it's half-life is longer. If you do get a steroid injection ask your MD for prescription strength NSAID. Physical therapy may also be an option. I'd try as many conservative options as possible before surgery. No surgery for me unless I just can't stand it any longer and of course recovery will be long if surgery is done.
