Default Squirrel Hunting

Do any of you still go? Growing up in south east Lousiana it was a way of life. I would like to take my son hunting this year in the lake charles area or anywhere within an hour drive of Lake Charles. I am happy to pay to hunt for a day on a lease or open to other ideas. I think it is a great activity for young children.

Since I live in Houston anything over here would be great as well. Any help will be appreciated.

The boys & I go in Feb with our dog, all deer hunters are done & leaves are gone. It's a blast with the dog.

Should be able to find places within an hr of Houston to squirrel hunt on public land and I know there are areas around Toledo to go but in Lake Charles area Sabine Island is good but thick and you will need a boat.

Casey we hunt sabine island every year. Squirrel hunting is a tradition for me. I havent missed and opener since i was 7 years old. Well be in sabine island for opener this year. Well be csmpin at nibletts bluff. There are some pretty good woods there and also you can troll down the banks and shoot em out of your boat. But if all else fails head to the island.

That brings back fond memories, shot one in flooded timber once.
Squirrels don't float. Had to fish around for him a while before I found him.
I may try Sabine Island again this year. No special permits required?

Me and Hagen bust a few tree rats every year. I like to hunt em, but I love to cook em in a black pot
