Cheers Tagging INFO....

I would like to share this info with you guys.....Just this past Wed. Aug 5, Hunting Fool and I tagged 32 trout.......Out of the 32 we tagged we had 5 over 20inchs..... Just found out we had two of the 32 trout recaptured already..... One was caught Sat 8th and one today(11th)...... This shows how catch and release works!!!

So far this year I have had 12 recaptured....two were released back!

Thats pretty cool man....I can see how tag and release would work in calcasieu, but not where I fish in vermillion bay since the water salinty changes so much. Alot of our trout stay way offshore and move in as the river falls.....

You would be surprised what trout do.....Male trout dont need that much saltwater to hang around....Females need more!!! If you get a lot of guys tagging in your area you would find trends you never knew about!!!!

I know its hard for guys to go out and tag and release fish but that is giving something back to our great fishery

Folks from The Aquarium of the America's that come over and tag our trout for the CCA Shoot Out have already had 2 tags returned.

fish were released at Calcasieu Point and one was recaptured by Calcasieu Point and the other was recaptured in the ship channel by 4 corners area.

Tagging works, but to work best, since tagged fish are the minority of the stock population, you should write down tag number, measure length and weight of fish, and release back into the water to live another day.

The really cool stories are of the fish that have been recaptured 5 or 6 times and you can track their journey.

Did anyone go to the CCA seminar in L/C a few months ago? They showed the tracks of around 10 trout that had be caught & a tracking device implanted. The tracks were I think over a year period. That was cool!

yes....the trout telemetry tagging study wasn't cheap. Jody did a great job with it and is still compiling all his data. I was there this year, and his slideshow was awesome to watch the fish move.

Needs more funding....start a donation on this site!

They want to make a permanent position for tagging inside LDWF. That'd be a cool job.
