I plant mine in avoyelles parish the last week of september. I have had the most success with rape, chicory, red clover, and winter wheat. I like to plant the rape the heaviest. I did soil samples 4 years ago and got the soil right so now I top with a couple hundred lbs. of triple 13 and all is good. You have to remember that the deer will not typically hit the rape until after a frost and the insides become sweet.

cajun have you ever used any alfalfa. the place i hunt in missouri. has huge alfalfa fields. the deer love them. don't see too many around here. i'm sure there is a reason. also this is a perennial comes back for up to five years and don't rob the soil |

I dont use alfalfa this tends to be more mid west for some reason. If I had to plant one thing it would be rape. The biggest waste of money for me over the years were turnips. They never ate them and last year I plowed some up as big as footballs. My 3 favorite attractants are rape and rice bran and does in heat
