I was thinking about this the other day, and had the typical "they don't make en like they used to" thought. Then, I immediately thought of they were so awesome back in the day then why the hell is the matter repair man so famous? He musta been in high demand...

I bought a Samsung in about that same price range a few years ago.
Ice maker never worked right. The repair man replaced the whole ice maker unit twice in the first year and the problem was never solved. By the time I called SEARS back the third time their 1 year warranty was expired. Now I am stuck with a fridge that refuses to give me cubed ice. I can get all of the crushed ice I want though! Bought a Kenmore yesterday. Spending the money again is enough of a pain but what really gets to me is the whole ordeal of changing them. You know it takes at least an hour to find the one you want (the wife wants), pay for the thing then get it loaded up. Then it's the whole "I hope this thing fits in the house" ordeal. It almost didn't. Barely got through even after removing all handles and the kitchen door.

I got the the kenmore three years ago and it has worked perfect so far. Only issue is that you have to pay almost $60 for the water filter when its time for it to be replaced. Not a problem since it does last for a while.

That's good man. No matter the brand a really good or really bad one gets built. After doing some research when it first started screwing up (a year ago) I found that particular model was plagued with problems. Spent 1500 last time and got two years spent 3k this time so I should be good for four years. Lmao

I have my grandmothers old Whirlpool side by side in the garage. I bet its 35 years old. The thermo stays on 34 degrees. They don't build them like that anymore.

I would totally agree. See it in my work too. Then you had a fridge and if something happened you ciuld usually buy A part and fix it. Now they are throw aways just like the cars I work on. They aren't built to last they are built to replace. You don't get parts you get assemblies. No joke two weeks ago I replaced an entire inner door panel on a truck because of a small broken plastic piece for the inside door handle. Could not get the door handle mechanism on it's own. Had to get the entire inner door panel.
