Default Single hooks for topwater

Anyone ever tried single hooks with topwater plugs?

Never have used singles but have used the double hooks that go on an H&H.
They fold back against the bait and ride point up.

One hook on any bait is better than two or 3 hooks.....

I have taken hooks off spooks and just left the back hook on....I always wanted to find some signal hooks that were small to put on topwater.....The more hooks you have the less chance your going to land the fish..... Two hooks pull against each other.....3 Hooks pull more...... One hook has more success ..

I'd use a trailer hook, like for a spinnerbait. its a little longer.

Here you go. Done a few tops with singles and they work fine. Great hook ups and no red will wreck 'em.
I find the Gamakatsu live bait hooks with the ring attached work well.

i wonder if it would be better to add a little swivel so the hook can freely spin, or would that cause problems

Smaller hooks = more holding ability.

The Gamakatsu hooks with the welded rings seem like overkill to me. Why wouldn't any short shank live bait hook work?

Salty, The solid ring, when inserted on the split ring on a bait, allows the new single hook to lie either 'point up or point down'. Without the solid ring the hooks lay right or left. Play with it and use the set up you like.

Although I never was what you would call an "avid" topwater fisherman, I have done my share, I guess. I used the single hooks 15 years ago with double HD split rings and short shank hooks. When I said the setup was overkill....I did not mean the ring was unnecessary.
