Default Grande Isle Ling and Dolphin

Headed to Grande Isle Saturday to do some Rig Fishing. I feel confident that I can get on some snapper but I hate to make the long drive and boat ride for only snapper. Really hoping to get on some ling and maybe even dolphin also. Really sucks that right when snapper season opens they close AJ season. Oh well.....

We are going in a 19' Mako deep V so we have a max range of say 40-50 miles out. Planning on bringing some frozen bait and some vertical jigs.

Anyone think I can get on some other species besides snapper this close to shore? If so any suggestions? Thanks in advance and report to follow next week.

eman,

Had a fellow tell me he got on all the Mangroves he wanted no further than six miles out of Belle Pass. You ought be be able to get on some Mangroves out of
Grand Isle. I think the limit is 10 per man so that should give you a good meat haul.

Yea, Mangrove and Red snapper should keep us busy. Just hoping to get a little variety in the fish box.

Sometimes if you chum for mangroves or reds some ling will come up too. Look for grass mats and bait and there should be tripletail or dolphin hangin out. Also any kind of buoy or floating trash will hold fish sometimes

Went 15 miles out of brideside this weekend. Caught our snapper, 6 mangroves, 2 lemon and about a 20 pound grouper. All on scuid, and sardines.

When I was there 2 weeks ago, I saw some guys at a rig about 20 miles out in 100ft of water catching some monster (18 inch plus) white trout on live croaker on the bottom. I wanted to give it a try myself, but I was too tired to make another run out there. They said that they were planning a fish fry and they were merely picking up the groceries for supper. Looked like fun, and next time I head that way, I will definitely have some live croakers on board for this purpose.

thanks for the advice guys. We are going to give it a shot.

Trout on the bottom in 100' of water? That sounds strange. Definitely worth a try!

yeah white trout get huge offshore. Saturday will be pretty rough. You might want to rethink your trip. Its probably gonna be 3-5's is what Im seeing. Thats not gonna be fun or safe in a 19 ft boat. Plus if a storm kicks up while you are out there it will be even worse
