Question Trolling motor question......

I am having water leaking out of the head of my trolling motor. It quit working the other day on the water but now it has power again. I thinking I may need a new seal kit to put inside the head. If anyone has opinion I would like to hear it..... I am def. not a trolling motor expert!

Either rain got in the head or the motor/shaft is leaking and when you pick up your motor it runs up into the head.

Is this leaking a new thing?

When you pick up a TM, there will be some water [maybe a cups worth] come out around where the Impeller connects to the motor. After you lift the TM out of the water and the water coming out "almost" stops, if you turn the handle so that the impeller rotates upwards.....a little more water will come out........This is normal.

When the motor quit working, this could be the circuit breaker tripping. Some will reset themselves after it cools down for 30 sec. to maybe one minute. Other circuit breakers have a "reset" button that must be pushed to reset them. If your wires and connections all look good......you might need to change the circuit breaker......cost about $ 5 at auto parts store. Check the old breaker to see what amp you need.

If you have a loose connection on the battery wire or corrosion, at the battery or where the TM wire plugs in......this can trip the circuit breaker.
