Dularge Redfish Action!
Red,Reds, and More Reds!
Water temps are cold (47 degrees) and the redfish are stacked up. I fished with Jimmy Thomas,Randy Guillory, Barry Gautreaux,Ross Lewis, Tyler Aucoin, and Bert Picou from Lafayette. The guys were rebuilding their duckblinds for the reopening of duck season this weekend. They wanted a little R&R mixed in with the work. Bert called me and wanted to catch a few fish. I picked up Bert,Jimmy and Tyler at their houseboat and only had to take an 8 minute boatride. Randy, Ross, and Barry followed me in their boat. Armed with LSU chubs we enjoyed a great redfish bite. At first the guys were reeling too fast and were not getting any hits. Dragging the chubs very slowly along the bottom was the only way they would bite. They got the hang of it and we whacked the reds catching 50-60 fish in a couple hours. The reds were curled up like snakes when you would reel them in and a few of the fish were covered with mud and some had leeches as they were laying on the bottom to stay warm. We kept our 35 reds,4 trout,1 flounder and after releasing a bunch we headed back to the houseboat. Mr Alfred Landry had a big pot of chicken gumbo which was a nice treat. I could not believe the numbers of ducks that we saw with hundreds and hundreds of birds. This opening weekend should be a great one and I've got an invite from Bert to join them. The guys were a fun crew to fish with and they'll probably try it again tomorrow with Capt Gerald since I'm booked already. Good luck fishing.
