Default Daughter getting hitched

My daughter just got engaged this weekend and my wife is ready to start planning. My question is should I expect to spend $10,000, 15 or more? I thought about offering her $10k to elope :*****:

May want to establish a budget. I know every man wants to give their daughter a dream wedding but there is no sense in going into debt over it.

U got 2 options here. I just got married so I'll throw my 2 cents n.
Both require a budget.
Once u have a budget make Ur offer.
Offer #1
have a small wedding, 1/2 of What Ur budget is . The other half can go toward purchasing a home.
Option #2
have a huge wedding, spend all of the budget and wish em the best.

I think alot of people would think long and hard about thier options..... It may sound great to you.... And it may sound redicilous.
But those are 2 options!!

Congrats to u and your daughter!!!

i'm getting married next May .......... we didnt get any options, but her dad gave her a 10k budget(which i thought was crazy). Just our reception is like 5k and the photographer is like $1500. But if given the option to take the money i would have done my best to convince her to and we would get married somewhere tropical!!

Man, y'all spoiled!!! Wife and I got married, cost me all of it! I think her parents paid for the reception dinner which was about $400. Can't remember who paid for it now...Getting drunk got me married and now, staying drunk keeps me married! It also causes memory fade! LOL

All well and good WT, But you know the only thing that the groom knows about the wedding is ,What time to show up.
We did the JP route too. 27 years ago they were like priest . You just gave them some $. Was no set charge
Z Boy, Decide what YOU can Afford and tell them both. (Bride and Mom) that this is what i can spend . Then sit the bride and future SIL down w/o mom and offer to pay for a small JP wedding and give them the balance as a wedding present.( We took the second option).
I have seen to many bridezillas and Momzillas that can't agree on what to do and the bride ends up in misery and future hubby learns early.
If the wife aint happy, you aint happy.

I'm getting married in February. My fiance spent about $2500 on dress. Church costs $200, would have been $1000 if her mom didn't teach at the school church is connected to. Reception is close to $8-9k for drinks, food, and Petroleum Club. And flowers are a few grand. Pictures are like $1500-2000. Crazy! Glad I aint gotta pay for it.
